This space is your one-stop shop for all things faculty development and instructional design. As a participant, you have the opportunity to self-select into one of two tracks: course mapping or course enhancement. The course mapping track is for someone developing a new online course. It contains resources on writing learning objectives, creating assessments, identifying instructional materials, and more. By the end of it, you'll have a completed course map that you can then submit to your instructional design. Conversely, the course enhancement track is for those who are enhancing an existing online course. In this track, you'll leverage course evaluation data to create a plan for enhancing your course and updating your course map. If you're unsure of which track to select, check with your supervisor and/or instructional designer.

In this short workshop, you’ll begin developing a course map for your online course including measurable, student-centered learning objectives; formative and summative assessments; instructional materials; and a modular structure in which all of these fit. You’ll also learn practical teaching strategies grounded in the science of learning, leaving you with a clear sense of what the rest of the course design project will entail.

The document you will produce will be exceedingly useful. It will help you consider the alignment between your course elements, facilitate improvement and enhancement of your course in subsequent terms, and greatly aid in your institution’s accreditation efforts.

We anticipate that this course should take you no more than three to four hours, with much of the time devoted to working on your course map.
