Best Practices: Course Design

BP 300: Foundations of Online Course Design

In this short, self-directed workshop, you’ll begin developing a course map for your online course including measurable, student-centered learning objectives; formative and summative assessments; instructional materials; and a modular structure in which all of these fit. You’ll also learn practical teaching strategies grounded in the science of learning, leaving you with a clear sense of what the rest of the course design project will entail.

The document you will produce will be exceedingly useful. It will help you consider the alignment between your course elements, facilitate improvement and enhancement of your course in subsequent terms, and greatly aid in your institution’s accreditation efforts.

We anticipate that this course should take you no more than three to four hours, with much of the time devoted to working on your course map.
